What is the Anat Baniel Method®

NeuroMovement®?

The Anat Baniel Method®

The Anat Baniel Method® (ABM) NeuroMovement® is a holistic approach that uses differentiation, refinement, and increased complexity of movement patterns to upgrade the functioning of the brain.

Connect the brain and the body

The idea that the brain and body are not separate entities has been widely accepted by the medical community for over a decade; however, few therapies have adapted treatments to reflect this awareness. The Anat Baniel Method® NeuroMovement® is based on the foundation that the brain and body are connected, and that increased complexity in movement can drive positive changes in the brain.

Who can benefit? Children with, but not limited to:

Autism Spectrum Disorder
Cerebral Palsy
ADD/ADHD
Learning disabilities
Birth injuries such as brachial plexus and torticollis
Brain damage
Genetic Disorders such as, but not limited to, Fragile X, Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Rett syndrome, Down Syndrome, etc.
Undiagnosed developmental delay

Who can benefit? Adults who:

Suffer from aches and pain
Feel limited due to injury or surgery
Have had a stroke or brain injury
Have been diagnosed with conditions, such as Multiple Sclerosis or Parkinson Disease
Have a neuro-motor condition, such as Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Spina Bifida
Have a physical condition that has limited them, such as scoliosis, amputations, paralysis
Want to increase vitality and creativity
Want improved mobility and balance
Want to increase flexibility and strength

This Method taps into neuroplasticity through movement and the nine essentials, listed below. Supported by neuroscience research, these principles provide the conditions that the brain requires to bring life-changing results to children and adults.

The 9 Essentials

01

Movement with Attention: When you bring attention to what you feel as you move, the brain starts to build new connections that in turn create changes.

02

Slow: Fast can only allow you to do what you know. Slow allows you to feel and experience life on a much deeper level.

03

Variation: By introducing variation into everything you do, you awaken your senses.

04

Subtlety: By reducing the force with which you move and think, you enhance your brain’s ability to perceive the finest of differences leading to more vitality in the mind and body, transforming the most mundane situation or task.

05

Enthusiasm: Enthusiasm is self generated, it lights up your brain, helping to usher in changes.

06

Flexible Goals: Freeing yourself from the compulsion to achieve a goal allows you to embrace the unexpected steps, mis-steps and re-routes, which in turn offers a source of valuable information for your brain to lead you to your goal.

07

The Learning Switch: Repetition, drills, and habitual patterns of thought, exercise, and emotions, all tend to turn the learning switch off. For the brain to properly do its job, the learning switch needs to be on.

08

Imagination & Dreams: Through imagination, the brain grows new neural connections allowing for the discovery of new possibilities that may not have been there before

09

Awareness: The action of generating awareness—is to be knowledgeable about what you are experiencing so that you can make a conscious choice in action. This type of knowing creates possibilities and potential rather than automaticity or compulsion.
